Ephesians 6:14a, 17
Stand firm.......... Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Proverbs 3:9-10
9: Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops;
10: then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

It is so frustrating when I hear some Christians discussing the issue of giving of tithe and offerings. It actually makes me sad because so many think that teaching from scripture about money is for the purpose of trying to get money from them. It saddens me because that mind set is the direct opposite of the reason the Bible speaks on issues of the giving of money. When people think like this they will not have more money because they did not give it away, they have less money because they tried to hang on to it. The reason God ask us to give is not because He wants or needs our money. How can we think that God NEEDS our money. The God who owns everything, is all powerful and can speak things into existence. He ask us to give so that He can bless us with increase of more than we had to begin with. You have to understand this is not something you can prove by "Generally Accepted Accounting Principles". God has His own principles and that is what He is trying to teach us when the Bible addresses issues of giving and the handling of our finances.

What does Proverbs 3:9-10 teach us? It teaches us to honor God with our giving so that we can be blessed with even greater wealth. If this is true then the opposite is equally true. If we don't honor God with our wealth then we will not enjoy increase.

Malachi 3:8-12
8: "Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. "But you ask, 'How do we rob you?' "In tithes and offerings.
9: You are under a curse the whole nation of you because you are robbing me.
10: Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the Lord Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.
11: I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit," says the Lord Almighty.
12: "Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land," says the Lord Almighty.

In Malachi when God says man is under a curse because they are robbing Him by not giving of their tithe and offerings He is saying this is acting as a blockage to Him giving them blessings and increase. This is actually the only place of in the Bible I know of where God tells us to test Him. As I said earlier, verse 11 tells us how God brings increase even though an Accountant can't calculation the numbers. Verse 12 tells us what God ultimately wants to happen. When we do our part it allows God to do His part and then others will see it and glorify God.

Proverbs 11:24-25
24: One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
25: A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

God's way of doing things is often 180 degrees opposite of the worlds ways. In God's Kingdom we give and more comes to us but when we try to hang on to what we have, it disappears. Always remember these three things when reading the Bible on money. 1.) God asked us to give not to get money from us but so that we are open and He can get money to us. 2.) God blesses us so that we can bless others. Do you believe that God wants to bless people? How does He bless them? He blesses them through you and me but they can't not be blessed it we do not put ourselves in a position that God can bless us. 3.) We don't work for money, money is simply a tool in God's way of thinking and it works for us.
