Ephesians 6:14a, 17
Stand firm.......... Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

1 Corinthians 15:33
33: Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character."

A friend of mine used to paraphrase this verse as "show me your friends and I will show you your future". I have always thought that was a great way of applying this truth to our lives. Each day as you go into the world of people, places, opportunities and experiences, you need to always ask yourself the question, "is this bettering me or is it a negative influence. Each of us is on a continual journey, whether we are conscious of it or not, to grow intellectually, socially, emotionally and in wisdom & understanding. Don't diminish all that you are learning and experiencing by putting yourself in negative places or around negative people. When my son was born I asked God, "how will he learn about all of the potential harm that is in the world if I don't let him experience it"? God's answered me immediately and said, "have him read my Bible". All of the evils of man are recorded in it. He doesn't have to put himself around bad company or bad situations to learn of the pitfalls of this world. It is more important that he keep his innocence.

1 Corinthians 5:6
6: Your boasting is not good. Don't you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough?

In this verse Paul is upset because the Corinthian church is allowing a man who is committing adultery with his step mother to remain in the local church. Their view is that they are proud of their tolerance of the man's sin. Maybe they thought is showed their grace towards him. Paul has a very different view. He said if the man committing adultery remains, his sin will begin to affect all of them. God wants us to reject sin but love the sinner. That does not mean however that we demonstrate our love of the sinner by tolerating the sin. "Bad company corrupts good character". Don't be so open minded and tolerant in your lives that you end up allowing yourself to be corrupted.
