Ephesians 6:14a, 17
Stand firm.......... Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Luke 17:5-10
5: The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!"
6: He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you.
7: "Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, 'Come along now and sit down to eat'?
8: Would he not rather say, 'Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink'?
9: Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do?
10: So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.'"

In this passage Jesus answers His disciples request to increase their faith by illustrating true faith at work. In verse 6 it seems Jesus is saying to His disciple that they have an incorrect understanding of what faith is. They believe they need more faith than what they currently have but Jesus says to them that even a very tiny measure of faith is enough to have authority over the physical, natural realm. Jesus then illustrates the point by teaching His disciples what they really need to understand about how faith operates. Greater faith does not come by asking the master to increase their faith for them, it comes by the servants doing their job and letting God be God. All God ask of us is to take Him at His word and do the things He expects Christians to do, such as love, serve, bless, look out for the needs of others etc. In other words all the faith we need is demonstrated when we simply live out God's word in our lives every day. He will know that we believe and trust Him (in other words, have faith) when we stop talking, discussing, theologizing and debating and simply start DOING what His word says. Jesus is saying that faith is about action and not about our belief system being built us. Of course we have additional scripture that supports this idea.

James 2:16-19
16: If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?
17: In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
18: But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.
19: You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that and shudder.

We see from this passage that faith is all about action. Telling someone to be well is not enough. If we truly believe God's word then we will physically do something to see that a persons needs are met. Demons BELIEVE that there is only one God but it does them no good because that belief is not put into action demonstrating what they believe.

Hebrews 11:1
1: Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

We do not have to see and understand everything about God. We are simply asked to be confident of the blessed hope that we have in Jesus. We are to be confident that that all of God's promises are ours because of Jesus and even though we may not see them we are still certain that they are true and they are ours.
