"My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power,
so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on God's power."

Ephesians 6:14a, 17
Stand firm.......... Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Exodus 3:13-14
13: Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?"
14: God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.'"

I remember driving home from a hospital visit late one Saturday night while still pastoring in California. I had visited a man who he and his family was going through what can only be described as a modern day Job experience. There were so many problems and crisis this family was facing and I asked God who is going to fix all of this. Immediately these two words came to my mind, I AM. Instantly I began to have a long list of problems, trials and attacks that we all face in life at one time or another come into my mind. As I ran through the list, whether they were family problems, work issues, physical or financial trials, the answer to who was going to see get us through them was I AM.

Without getting into a long explanation of the Hebrew behind the name, I AM, one of the points God is making is that only God can define who He is. He defines Himself and what He says and does is who He is. This is why it is so important that we read and learn God's Word. It is how we know Him. We learn who He is and understand what He says. Who is our redeemer, friend, provider, healer, baptizer, father, king, brother, guide, holiness, the one who empowers, enables us to stand, justifies, gives us favor, goes before us to make the crooked places straight and the rough places smooth, our defender, our advocate, the giver of new and eternal life, I AM!

It is also important to understand that in the name, I AM, is that God is always in the present. Whatever our need, God is always present in our situation.

Revelation 1:8
8: "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty."

God is present in our lives now, He was present in our past and He will be present in our future. God is the beginning and the end and everything in the middle. No thing, no person, no situation exist outside of God's knowledge or control. The world does not influence or dictate to God. He existed before the world began and will still be around after it ends.

The last thing I learn from the name "I AM" is that I am not. None of what I have written about (and much, much more) is my job, my concern or my problem. Thank you God. I choose to make you Lord of my life and let you take the lead in all of these things.
