Ephesians 6:14a, 17
Stand firm.......... Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Isaiah 9:6
6: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Some of you may wonder why I conclude my devotion each day with the closing, Shalom. I thought as we approached Christmas it would be a good time to take a quick look at the meaning and implications to Christians of the word Shalom. In the above passage we see a prophecy concerning the birth of Jesus and He is referred to as the Prince of Peace (Sar Shalom). The word peace is translated from the Hebrew word, Shalom. Many people think of peace as being the meaning of shalom. They are partially correct but shalom means so much more. According to Strong's Concordance 7965 Shalom also means completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord. When we think that Jesus is the Sar Shalom (Prince of Peace/Shalom) we see that Jesus is the source of peace, completeness, prosperity and wholeness in our lives. The implication is that if Sar Shalom is truly Lord of our lives then as we allow Him to lead us and live through us, all of these traits that Jesus is the source of will be present in our lives as well.

Isaiah 48:18
18: If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace (shalom) would have been like a river, your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

Isaiah 48:18 reminds us that we access all of Sar Shalom's blessed attributes through obedience. Obedience is our half of the covenant we have with God through Jesus. In Deuteronomy 28:1-14 we see this spelled out in specific detail. When we obey God's commands then we have everything we want and need through Jesus.

Philippians 4:19
19: And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

We have access to receive from God because of Jesus sacrifice in our place.

Isaiah 26:12
12: Lord, you establish peace (shalom) for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.

Once again we see that all of the completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord that ever transpires in our lives is because Jesus provides it for us. Please know that when I close each Daily Sword with "Shalom" it is the best thing I could possibly wish for you and nothing would make me happier than to see you enjoy the fullness of the Sar Shalom this Christmas and all year long.
